Day One

Hi all– Brian Tremml here, writer and director of The Water Is My Sky (working title)! I am absolutely thrilled and humbled by your interest in our project and I promise to share as much as I can with you throughout the production of this film. During my fifteen year career as a swimmer, I came to realize that the swimming community is one of the most hard working, dedicated and supportive groups of people on earth, and I consider it my personal artistic duty to deliver to you a movie that accurately depicts these qualities.

And so, this past year we began pre-production work on our project. The first major shoot took place at the University of Iowa’s Campus Recreation and Wellness Center on a Friday night in April. We were granted access to the natatorium after it had been closed off to the public, giving my film crew and I the chance to transform the deck into a mini movie-set. For actors, I was extremely grateful to feature nine of my closest friends, all former swimmers for the University of Iowa.

I cannot tell you how incredible it was for me to see shots I have had filed away in my imagination for several years come to life during this shoot. I hired an extremely talented cinematographer out of Indianapolis to capture as many stylized sequences of elite swimming as possible, and he delivered everything that I had hoped for.

We shot for just over two hours and were able to capture some absolutely stunning footage. Even now, eight months after the fact, it is safe to say that I am still obsessed with it.

From this footage, we have cut together a short teaser video as our official launching point for the project. We encourage you to share it with family and friends, as well as join our mailing list, as we begin to spread the word about our project. And while we cannot bring you too many specifics regarding our film’s plot at this time, we can say that we anticipate a long journey ahead of us, and we could not be happier to have you all along for the ride! Check back soon.
